BANK OF ENGLAND - TECHNOLOGY DEVISION
The Technology division manages and supports all aspect of technology delivery across the Bank, from maintaining critical systems which underpin the UK economy, to providing big data analytics, implementing comprehensive cyber security programmes and introducing innovative solutions in support of a digital workplace.
Technology's key objective is to support all other areas of the Bank in achieving our collective mission to promote the good of the people of the UK by maintaining monetary and financial stability. This is achieved through the delivery of appropriate, high performing, resilient solutions and information services across the organisation and externally.
Technology is structured around a simple operating model: Analyse-Deliver-Service-Secure. This model ensures transparency and effectiveness in our delivery, prioritisation and cost base for IT services and promotes close working relationships with colleagues across the Bank so that we can all deliver with pace and agility.
The SQL DBA Infrastructure role sits within the Infrastructure Domain of the Delivery Division in Technology and is responsible for the support requirements around the Bank's SQL estate. This role is primarily operational/support focused, involving a small element of project delivery from time to time. The successful candidate will have specialism in delivering support, maintenance, improvements, releases, and some minor project delivery in SQL Server databases.
THE ROLE OF AN SQL DATABASE ADMINISTRATOR
The Database Operations team consists of 7 engineers split between SQL and Oracle (including a total of two SQL DBAs in the Engineering focused side) who are responsible for the delivery of new projects across all Infrastructure disciplines throughout the Bank, on infrastructure which is maintained and supported by the Infrastructure Operations Teams (Storage, Networks, Platforms and Database Services) This role resides in the support element of the broader team. The job holder will be required to manage all aspects of the end-to-end delivery of support for all of the Bank's SQL servers & databases, adhering to the relevant Bank standards and assisting projects where necessary.
Candidates will have experience of administering, supporting and building SQL Server 2008 R2/2012 databases in a business-critical production environment. Experience of administering and supporting other databases, particularly Oracle and/or MySQL would be advantageous. This role is a fantastic opportunity for a DBA to join a highly motivated team, working on critical projects across the Banks databases and enhancing their skills and experience in a friendly, professional environment. Candidates will be ambitious and be able to work collaboratively within the wider Database Services team.
