DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

Policy and Corporate Affairs is responsible for managing Channel 4’s external relationships with key stakeholders – primarily government, parliament and Ofcom, as well as supporting Channel 4’s wider corporate communications and strategic priorities

JOB PURPOSE

The assistant will provide support to the whole team – engaging with a wide range of projects across the team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administrative support across the team including support on presentations and briefings, maintaining and updating grids and project timetables
  • Handling MP correspondence
  • Maintaining and updating stakeholder contact lists summarising industry reports and other publications for internal audiences
  • Monitoring political and industry developments and updating staff accordingly (working with our external monitoring agency)
  • Conducting ad-hoc research into industry, policy and regulatory issues
  • Creating and maintaining a database of Channel 4’s engagement with MPs/Peers
  • Helping the team to secure high level attendees at events and activities
  • Chasing RSVPs and managing guest lists
  • Chasing up meetings with MPs and keeping record of meetings
  • Researching lists of stakeholders and political and industry influencers to invite to events and corporate hospitality
  • Writing briefing notes and biographies of attendees at events
  • Providing support in terms of on-going / social media communications with stakeholders
  • Supporting our corporate communications, including helping with aspects of the Channel 4 Annual Report, such as compiling imagery, content and lists

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • If you love television and are interested in politics this could be a great role for you. We are not looking for finished product but someone with passion and potential.
  • Passionate about Channel 4’s content, its values and its role as a Public Service Broadcaster.
  • Demonstrate an interest in politics, current affairs and media industry
  • Team player and willingness to take on a variety of tasks across a busy team
  • Excellent written communication skills and great ideas on how to communicate our key messages
  • Highly organised with attention to detail
  • This person will receive a good degree of support – but we want a self-starter who can see what work needs doing and make it happen.
  • The Corporate Affairs team is dealing with sensitive issues – so someone who is responsible and able to be discreet and understand the importance of the work that is being done.
