Job Description

The role of Financial Controller is to provide incisive information and advice to aid efficient decision making and to contribute to the evolution of an even more agile and innovative commercial enterprise. With a focus on automation, this role manages all financial accounting, integration and consolidation and corporate governance operations. Heading a small specialist Finance Team and reporting directly to the CFO, this role will work alongside the Managing Directors, Group Leaders and Executive teams of the subsidiary businesses

Responsibilities

· Cash Management

· Prepare with the business units the cash-flow management at group level - 5 group companies

· Prepare short term 13-week cash-flow schedule starting from opening balance sheet position with standard schedules for staff to complete and update regularly and drive the process

· Forecast/Budget – to do with business unit finance managers

· Prepare annual budget for 5 companies

· Prepare monthly forecasts for 5 companies regularly updating for: expected revenues and cost percentages for each revenue type, actuals, current level of overheads, staff planning and new spend

· Explain changes in revenue and query with relevant managers

· Above includes P&L, Balance sheet and cash-flow for next 4 years using a model in excel

· Month-end Accounts

· Prepare Flywheel holding company P&L and Balance sheet

· Produce consolidated P&L, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow for the group with variance analysis compared to both budget and forecasts versus budget and forecast

· Produce first cut of group balance sheet

Other

· Lead and oversee our MS Dynamics Business Central implementation working with the Management Team in order to tighten up our processes around CRM and to add real value for project costing

· Influences and leads a strong culture of reporting metrics and accountability throughout the group. Forecasting is critical, as is granular reporting of progress towards goals

· Leadership of Finance business planning for Flywheel Group, including forecasting, CRM, budgets and financials in the context of the wider Flywheel strategy

· Provide timely, accurate and relevant financial information or advice for management, for the company’s bankers and investors, for HMRC, VAT and other regulatory authorities, and for other stakeholders

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· The successful candidate will hold a professional accountancy qualification (ACA, CIMA) and will have experience in a leadership position. · Must have gone through a journey of process evolution. · FRS 102 skills and must have set up proper consolidated accounts previously. · Solid skills in cash forecasting, management accounts and general forecasting. · Project accounting exposure (which can be split into 2 elements). - Collection of costs (including people time) and comparison to budget – what did we plan to do v what we actually did, which requires systems and includes cost to complete functionality. - Statutory accounting requirements of contract accounting. · Experience with Revenue Recognition as some customers prepay for the year and others pay in arrears. · CRM systems implementation experience – simplification through automation (any tools considered but Dynamics Business Central highly advantageous). · Excellent stakeholder management (both internal and external). · Robust man management track record. · Must be resilient and credible with ‘executive presence’. · Exposure to profitability analysis and familiarity with time sheet collection systems for project profitability and resource efficiency assessment as well as automated profitability metrics e.g. Value add per employee cost. · Experience in tech scale-ups (Series A, B or C rounds) is highly regarded. Experience in working with organizations selling and providing technical solutions focused on consulting, design, EdTech and Infrastructure. Background in a business backed by private equity or VC.
