The role requires use of our financial systems (Harmony, TM1, Cognos and Thomson-Reuters software) and dedication to the development of an understanding of our price controls, the nature of regulated Networks and the role of the Regulator. Equipped with this knowledge, the role will be able to support decision making and technical accounting decisions specific to our companies.

Primary responsibilities are as follows:

1) Preparing the financial statements for the Distribution and Transmission statutory entities;

2) Supporting work on the regulatory reporting requirements mandated by the Regulator and following the appropriate data assurance process;

3) Supporting the external audit process across the Networks entities;

4) Involvement in the Transmission tariff setting process and industry charging matters with the opportunity to take on wider commercial responsibilities within the Transmission business;

5) Implementation and strengthening of financial controls and procedures;

6) Supporting the wider management accounting team with technical accounting matters.

Key Accountabilities

• Lead ownership of the preparation of Networks statutory financial statements;
• Taking a lead in preparation for and completion of the audit process at various points during the financial year;
• Assisting with implementing and embedding enhanced financial processes, regulatory reporting processes and controls, including development of procedures and methodologies;
• Providing financial and technical accounting support to aid decision making across the Networks division;
• Supporting the Transmission tariff setting process and working closely with Finance and Regulation on Regulatory Finance matters;
• Building strong working relationships both internally across the SSE Group and Externally with all key industry stakeholders.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be successful in this role we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience; Fully qualified accountant, would suit both a newly qualified or experienced accountant with evidence of continuing professional development; Financial controls and process experience (SOX experience preferred); Strong communication and organizational skills with the willingness to undertake a varied and challenging role; Ability to work to tight timescales, under pressure and deliver to a continuously high standard; Pro-active and uses initiative to enhance financial reporting processes; Comfortable reviewing finance related elements of legal/regulatory documentation; Willingness to undertake challenging tasks often beyond your ‘comfort zone’; High level of financial and commercial acumen.
