Job Description

Undergraduate Assessment Processes:

  • To coordinate the administration of the assessment processes of the undergraduate programmes, using specialist knowledge, in developing and implementing administrative procedures to improve efficiency across the programmes.
  • To proactively coordinate and promote the organization of activities required to deliver the assessment cycle:
  • Construction of papers
  • Question bank creation and management
  • Reviewing questions
  • Staff Training
  • Maintenance of Data
  • Exam and Question standard-setting.
  • Quality Assurance
  • Overseeing administrative processes
  • Developing assessment procedures/methods
  • To support the Undergraduate School Manager and Programme Boards in identifying the potential for changes in assessment procedures, to improve efficiency across the programmes.
  • To support the SoVM in the development and implementation of new systems.

Undergraduate School reporting:

  • To use data manipulation and analysis skills to develop and deliver reports concerning the performance of undergraduate assessment cycles, including the performance of assessments and students
  • To undertake forward planning to collate and deliver the assessment and curriculum delivery data required by senior managers in the external accreditation cycle (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, American Veterinary Medical Association and the European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education).

General Administration:

  • To minimize the scope for, and impact of, problems throughout the academic administrative cycle, using problem solving skills to anticipate and resolve any issues in a timely manner
  • To design, develop internal work systems and processes and maintain standard operating procedures and accessible record management information in order to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery.
  • To provide professional advice and guidance to academic staff and professional and support staff, including senior staff with responsibility for managing the delivery and support of assessment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role. Excellent IT knowledge, including the ability to create, maintain and interrogate databases and spreadsheets using current versions of administrative software packages and Microsoft Office software. Educated to degree level or equivalent. Knowledge of modern assessment methods and statistical analysis of assessment of relevance to Higher Education. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication [written and oral] skills with the ability to deal with issues effectively. Ability to use initiative and to exercise independent judgment. Accuracy and attention to detail. Tact, diplomacy, discretion and confidentiality. Ability to motivate staff and manage performance. Ability to work independently and to tight deadlines without regular supervision. Able to work proactively, multi-task and take ownership of delegated tasks. Ability to accept collegiate responsibilities and act accordingly. Ability to write minutes of meetings. High degree of computer literacy, including word-processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentation and e-mail. Ability to work between established teams. Significant administrative experience in a similar or related role. Proven experience of problem solving, planning, organizing and setting priorities. Proven experience of decision making, involving independent analysis and judgment. Experience of managing/supervising staff. Experience of working with students. Experience of interrogation of database systems. Experience of administration in a Higher Education Institution.
