Job Description

• Providing a high standard of service to our pupils and staff.
• Delivering first aid and emergency care as necessary.
• Assisting Nurses to run drop-in clinics and morning surgery.
• Providing support to the Nursing team and College Doctor during clinic and surgery times, under their direction.
• Cover the Medical Centre when the Nurse Manager attends meetings.
• Operating under procedures for the control of infectious diseases and to practice within Universal Precautions.
• Looking after pupils who are inpatients following the direction and support of the Nursing team, including taking and recording observations, acting on these observations as required, providing meals and assisting with hygiene needs.
• Taking pupils to hospital or GP surgery for routine appointments if required.
• Measuring patients height and weight following direction from Nursing staff.
• Ensuring accurate and appropriate paperwork and records are completed.
• Undertaking general office duties such as answering the telephone, filing medical notes, photocopying, typing etc.
• Responding to and following up enquiries by post, telephone or email to parents,
• school staff and Outside Agencies/Consultants.
• Organising and maintaining paper and electronic files.
• Preparing and submitting relevant administration in a timely and accurate manner, including information required for GP and Council meetings.
• Updating patients’ personal data through close liaison with Nursing staff.
• Maintaining stock levels of Medical Centre paperwork.
• Assisting with the dissemination of health promotion resources in the Medical Centre, including creating displays for information and providing information to Boarding Houses to be able to do the same.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the Medical Centre team, pupils and parents and Outside Agencies/ Consultants.
• Maintaining confidentiality at all times.
• Developing personal skills and capacity through on-going training.
• With notice, providing additional support to the team, when required.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Good educational background • Relevant qualification in a health related subject or relevant qualification. • First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake it. • ECDL. • Experience in a similar role or of working in a care environment. • Experience of working with teenagers and ability to empathise. • Excellent ICT skills. • Able to keep calm under pressure and confident in dealing with parental queries. • Strong communicator and able to maintain confidentiality. • Team player and able to work under own initiative. • Excellent administration and organisational skills. • Smart appearance. • Attention to detail. • Excellent time management and a flexible approach to hours and duties. • Driving Licence and access to a car for work purposes. • The desire and willingness to undertake further training and CPD as may be required in order to properly perform the duties in a changing and challenging environment . • Understanding of working in the Independent sector and/or a boarding school environment.
