Job Description

As a Shipwright you will be pivotal in preparing ships to go to sea, supporting in their movement and eventual float-off. You must be skilled in the docking and un-docking of ships on-site in our shipyards.

You will also need to know how to level and align large ship structures during build and will require to be skilled in the lifting and transportation of these structures in support of the build process. In addition to these large-scale activities you will also be expected to play an important role in the manufacturing, fitting, levelling and alignment of ships equipment, seats and other structures.

Your main responsibilities as a Shipwright will involve:

  • Marking - off materials
  • Assembling of ships structures, shell, decks, bulkheads, frames, & Longitudinal
  • Erect, level and position units. (Use of lifting equipment. Use of levelling equipment and fairing aids)
  • Install fabricated ship items - seats, ladders, false flooring & panels etc.
  • Outfitting Ships items, fitting of hatches, watertight doors, equipment seats & false flooring
  • Preparing ship for launch & ship sea trials & float off
  • Ship Docking (set up dock, sewing wedge, safe operation of dock gate and dock side winches
  • Plate preparation, using different methods (Oxy – fuel gas cutting & Hand Grinding), & drilling
  • Sea Trials (deck crew, anchor party)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
What we're looking for in you: Experienced Shipwright with Trade papers is essential. Working knowledge of ship movement & docking processes. Skilled in the docking and un-docking of ships on-site in shipyards. Understanding of fabrication and installation drawings. Health and safety knowledge. Experience of coaching and passing on knowledge to apprentices. Understanding of quality standards. You will have good communication skills with the ability to work well as part of a team. You must be practical and showcase good problem-solving skills.
