Job Description

In this role you will act as an interface between the Design Team Leaders ensuring consistency in the application of best practice and ensuring that issues are dealt with in a consistent way across the teams. Ensure a proactive approach to resource management, talent management, staff development and succession planning to meet the requirements for the ongoing development of the signaling discipline whilst supporting and driving its future within the business.

A typical week would include:

  • Undertaking the role of Contractors Responsible Engineer (Signaling CRE) on a project,
  • Feasibility Studies/Option Analysis/Appraisal;
  • Scheme development and Detailed Design;
  • Undertaking Independent checking of signaling design, commensurate with own knowledge and experience and within the budget provision for the work.
  • Produce Engineering Reports and Signaling Risk Assessments,
  • Acting as Engineering Consultant when required,
  • Train staff in design process and technical matters
  • Provide resource estimates with the Technical Discipline Lead / Head of Discipline for proposals and projects.
  • To manage the effective utilization of design resources to client requirements and programme.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A degree, HND or equivalent level in a relevant subject. A current IRSE Signaling Principles Designer License (essential). A current IRSE Design or Senior Design Manager License (desirable). A current PTS certificate (desirable). Registration with IRSE (desirable).
