The Stations team which is part of the overall Rail business unit is seeking Design Managers to work on a number of multidisciplinary rail stations projects ideally in Glasgow The team continues to grow rapidly and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate to work within the Rail sector and others within the group, and build upon recent project successes.
We are seeking an experienced person with a strong architectural or engineering background in rail, preferably within a stations environment.
A typical week would include:
Responsibility for leading design projects, both technically and contributing to the commercial aspects as required.
Responsibility for contributing to the bid process within WSP for station projects for various Clients.
The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and communication skills and be proficient at developing client relationships. You will be strong technically and will have experience of leading multi discipline design teams including progressing our early career professionals, graduates and apprentice engineers/technicians.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline Chartered Architect/Engineer or working towards charter ship Good report production and presentation skills Excellent interpersonal & communication skills Relevant design management experience, preferably in a stations environment. Leading and coordinating a multi discipline design team and preferably delivering rail station projects Understanding of Network Rail’s GRIP process and Engineering Assurance procedures. Understanding of RIBA stages Technical knowledge to be able to challenge project teams on outputs/deliverables and where necessary, clients to ensure focus is maintained on defined scope or where scope needs to be modified, renegotiate and agree. Ability to plan project timescales, resources and commercially, being able to report progress against programme and against budget. Good understanding of fee costs to deliver projects at the various stages is desirable. Experience of Network Rail standards. Awareness of HS2 or Cross rail standards desirable.
