Job Description

* Previous experience of working within a care or support setting, ideally with adults with learning disabilities.
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social care *or* willingness to work towards
* Full UK Driving Licence (Preferred)
* Working knowledge of health and safety, protection of vulnerable adults, person centred planning
* A desire to promote and support clients’ independence, choice, control and inclusion.
* Able to be sensitive, yet objective, about the needs of adults with learning difficulties.
* Able to recognise relevant information in verbal and non-verbal communication.
* Good social and oral communication skills.
* Able to motivate and organise self and others. Flexible, with good problem-solving skills.
* Able to work independently and as a member of a team.

*Role of a Support Worker*

* To provide a supportive and flexible approach that enables clients to fulfil their potential for independence, choice, inclusion and control by positively enabling and empowering clients to achieve their aspirations for independent living.
* To plan and carry out activities ensuring that clients are supported in a personalised way considering their individual choices, aspirations and goals. Activities will include supporting clients to:

* maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming living environment.
* use appropriate laundry facilities so they can be enabled to do their washing to ensure they have suitable and appropriate clothing to wear.
* plan, shop and prepare wholesome meals alongside clients taking into account their choices and wishes.
* maintain their health and well-being by assisting them to arrange and attend medical appointments.
* enable clients to manage their own finances by developing appropriate budgeting and financial training giving support on an individual basis.
* support clients to access college courses, training and other day time activities.
* To attend staff meetings and other meetings as appropriate.
* To ensure compliance with Supporting People and CQC standards and my clients policies and procedures.
* To contribute to the protection of clients from any form of abuse.
* To deliver high quality dignified personal care.
* To support people to administer their medication safely and in line with all policies and procedures.
* Where appropriate, to liaise with clients’ parents, social workers and others to make sure that the network of support around each person is functioning effectively.
