Job Description

We are an FMCG wholesaler in the food sector and have experienced enormous growth over the past 3 years boosted most recently by the COVID-19 pandemic which has changed our sector and strengthened our position within that sector significantly. Due to our customer base spanning traditional retail outlets, online retail and home delivery, and our product offering being at the forefront of healthy, responsible consumption, we are uniquely placed to capitalise on the growth already achieved as well as further growth opportunities that we have identified.

We are now moving into the next, exciting phase of our long term plan in which our focus for this phase is to consolidate the growth achievements, introduce new revenue streams and create a business that has the required management structure, reporting lines and risk controls required by a medium sized enterprise. To this end we are looking to appoint a Management Accountant to lead the accounts department and take full responsibility for the accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, adherence to financial and taxation laws and regulations, preparation and submission of accounts to the auditors, financial risk controls and financial reporting to the board.

The MA will report directly to the Financial Director and lead a team that currently has four members but will inevitably expand over the next financial year as required. The team currently consists of  3 assistants. The MA is responsible for commercial and financial data analysis, preparation of various internal and external financial and commercial reports, and to assist the FA as and when required.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, highly motivated and organised individual with a keen commercial mind who is able to add value to the business as a whole. We are a fast-paced, multi-faceted business with a strong, capable leadership team. The candidate will be expected to join the leadership team and will therefore need to be enthusiastic, have excellent communication skills, have the ability to form and communicate ideas, be able to positively influence at all levels within the organisation and form positive, beneficial working relationships both internally and externally. The candidate will need to be both professional and personable with a dedication to accuracy and integrity and who is capable and willing to be “hands-on” to ensure that KPI’s are achieved.

The candidate will have worked in commercial organisations of at least medium size, preferably in the FMCG sector, for at least 5 years and at least 3 continuous years in any one organisation. They will have attained qualifications commensurate with the position held, will have managed a team of at least four direct reports and will be able to demonstrate past achievements in team leadership, management, financial responsibility and control, change management and problem solving.

We are in the process of implementing a new ERP system, NetSuite, so previous related experience with this or a similar, integrated ERP system is required. The business is heavily reliant on advanced MS Excel spreadsheets for reporting and as an operational tool, so the candidate needs to demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in the preparation and maintenance of advanced spreadsheets both as internal financial tools as well as presentation documents.

The business has foreign suppliers (mostly Europe) so previous experience with multi-currency accounting and foreign exchange hedging to minimise risk due to exchange fluctuations is essential.
