- Supporting all aspects of his personal care needs, transfers, therapy and social leisure activities.
- Assisting him to eat and drink, including the use of his PEG which is generally only used for water and medication
- Facilitating his independence in all activities of daily living. Supporting him with therapeutic activities/programmes and trips out. This will include driving a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) at times.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Be reliable, trustworthy, a clear communicator and have a good sense of humour. - Have a proactive encouraging approach and be willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities. - Demonstrate the ability to carry out/the ability and willingness to learn new skills, to include the use of a standing transfer aid, hoist, PEG and carrying out therapy programmes etc. - Physically fit - Even with specialist equipment in place and appropriate training, it is important that you are physically fit. The handling management plan designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries may require you to bend, kneel or lunge to ensure good posture during handling tasks - Be confident and competent to drive a large WAV - Be happy to work within a home where there is a family dog Preferred experience - Working with children/adults with special needs - Use of moving and handling equipment and other specialist equipment with people with a disability - The use of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) and other specialist IT technology
