Job Description
The financial controller will be reporting directly to the Deputy CEO/CFO. You will be a key support to the business in the provision of high-quality business analysis and reporting to assist in understanding the financial performance and key trends of the organisation. The role will encompass periodic management reporting, planning, and forecasting, budgeting, business case preparation, and analysis in accordance with strategic priorities and year-end duties.
- Create monthly and annual reports to identify results, trends, and financial forecasts
- Closely manage cash flow by tracking transactions, forecasting spend and regularly reviewing internal reports
- Ensuring that ledger and control accounts in the accounts system are formally balanced/reconciled each month
- Ensure the year end statutory accounts are prepared in time for submission.
- Supervision and management of financial accounting staff, including formal appraisals in line with company policies
- Deputise and support for the finance team as and when required.
- Provide a financial decision support service in evaluating and analysing business performance and preparing financial proposals to assist in ensuring expected business returns are targeted and achieved
- Ensure the completion of monthly payroll processing, including payroll yearend returns, P11D workings and submitting PSA returns to HMRC
- Complete the monthly pension submission. Liaise with the company pension advisor regarding NEST pension updates and TPR requirements.
- Develop and implement new financial processes and improvements
- Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported
- Maintain financial reporting systems to comply with government regulations and legislation
- Collaborate and liaise with external auditing, tax, and other services to ensure compliance with all regulations
- Assist in company-wide budgetary planning and oversee, review, and track to the budgets for each business department and company to spot and effect cost reduction opportunities
- Examine all financial reports and data closely to check for discrepancies
- Create and maintain systems to prevent errors in data collection and calculations
- Report to the Deputy CEO/CFO with timely and accurate financial information
- Assist the Deputy CEO/CFO in presenting reports to stakeholders and board members
- Manage VAT and corporation taxes reporting
- Manage Month-end and year-end close process and external audit
- Document and develop business processes and policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Hold a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
- Knowledge and/or experience of IFRS reporting standards and requirements
- Minimum of 8 years experience in a similar role (5 years post qualification)
- Excellent knowledge of Sage packages
- Good knowledge and experience in a Bookkeeping capacity
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and skills
- Strong analytical and forecasting skills
- Advanced Excel skills and experience of other financial systems
- Proven experience of financial forecasting and management accounting
