Job Description

This is an essential political role that will run the elections for the Forest of Dean area. You will manage and have regular contact with our elections staff and the council's legal services team. You will liaise with client departments, MPs, council members, candidates, agents, central government departments and other public bodies and external agencies. We are looking for a diligent individual who works well under pressure and who is good at working in a team.

This role will be working closely in a team of 3 election staff on a daily basis overseeing the team and ensuring that Elections are planned and delivered with minimum issues. The candidate should be outgoing, a problem solver, works well to tight deadlines and a manager of not just their team but also the numerous people that help with the elections when they are taking place. They need to be able to train new staff whether that be counting staff or polling staff. They will have budget responsibility for the elections and will need to work with the finance team to ensure that reporting to Cabinet Office is correct for each election. Ultimately they will have Deputy Returning Officer responsibilities so will need to be able cover for the Returning Officer when they are unavailable.

• At least 5 years experience in an Elections team • Experience in running all types of Elections • Experience in managing employees / Election staff • Experience as a Deputy Returning Officer • Experience in managing Election projects Special Conditions… • Ability to travel • Ability to work longer hours and overtime during Election periods
