Job Description

The role

Under the leadership of a new dynamic Executive Director, our Children and Young Peoples Directorate is undertaking some exciting and innovative projects and reviews to ensure that we make the best use of our funding to support every child to achieve their best possible outcomes and lead their best lives.

We are looking for a talented accountant to support the Children and Young Peoples Directorate to achieve these ambitions.

This is a unique opportunity for the right individual who wants to contribute to new ways of working and to apply their own vibrancy and initiative. As part of this role you will have the opportunity to work directly with the senior managers within the service on a range of new projects and initiatives which make this role interesting and more rewarding knowing that you will be playing a crucial role in shaping the future service delivery of services to Lewisham’s young people.

Like most local authorities we continue to face the pressure of delivering high quality services with less money.

As a member of the finance team you will be responsible for the accurate and timely completion of the following standard accounting processes including:

 

  • Monthly monitoring – accurate forecasting updates for service leads
  • Meeting corporate financial deadlines including budget setting, closure of accounts
  • Grant claims and Data returns to various Government departments
  • Ensuring systems are updated

In addition to the above you will have the opportunity to support the service directly in a range of transformational project areas including, service area reviews, business case development , forecasting and modelling options and appraisals.

What we’re looking for

The right individual must have strong numeric and analytical skills with knowledge of local government funding in particular the challenges facing young people, and preferably a qualified account.

You will have excellent
 

  • Problem solving skills
  • Clear and effective communication skills
  • Fluent use of IT, including excel, General Ledger finance system e.g. Oracle
  • Ability to work on your own initiative but equally as part of a team
