Job Description
  • Provide effective and efficient support to nursing and medical staff as required.
  • To provide all aspects of computer and clerical work for staff and patients in the clinical area ensuring the smooth running of the department.
  • Ensure all patients, relatives and visitors are greeted in a polite and professional manner.
  • To provide an efficient and comprehensive administration and reception service supporting the Emergency department clinical teams.
  • To be an initial point of contact within the Emergency department providing appropriate responses and onward directions to all patients in a polite and informative manner. Resolve telephone enquiries and if required take messages accurately and give information and advice (not medical) to GPs, patients, relatives and other staff involved with the patient in a manner responsive to customer needs and in accordance with Trust procedures and Information Governance.
  • Book in and direct all patients who attend the Emergency department.
  • Input and update patient data on the Patient Administration System (PAS) computer system ensuring accurate tracking steps are logged for each patient on screen across the A&E Department, ensure the Upon discharge ensure all patients have been correctly admitted, discharged or transferred appropriately to the relevant area.
  • Assist the Nurse in Charge in the discharge process of patients.
  • To arrange the most appropriate transport for discharge / transfer.
  • To arrange the earliest available appointment for requested follow up clinics
  • To undertake any clerical duties as deemed necessary and reasonable.
  • To Ensure that all administration areas are stocked sufficiently at all times and any breakdowns are addressed and escalated including Multi-function devices and Printers
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team within the Emergency Department.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • To refer site management issues and callers onto the appropriate department.
  • Provide administrative cover for all areas within the Emergency floor as per Rota in line with the trust Roster policy.
  • Adherence to all Trust AGN’s, policies and procedures is mandatory.
  • To be aware of Health and Safety and Infection Control regulations within the department and adhere to the trusts Health and Safety policy.
  • Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to perform the role effectively and ensure evidence of competence is provided and signed off by the line manager.
  • Recognize own limitations and seek advice when appropriate, identifying own learning needs to discuss with line manager/appraiser.
  • To assist Nurse in charge, Service manager and General Manager in the Ambulance handover process by highlighting any delays in the handover process and per departmental procedure.
  • Ensure all notes and attachments are scanned to the patient’s admission in real time to safeguard access to allow other Clinical staff to access the relevant clinical detail of the attendance.
  • To adhere to the trust values at all times.
