While developers build line of business applications using tools such as code compilers and database engines. Engineers create those tools.

Working within a dedicated software engineering team, you will build and maintain core platform tools that underpin all of our digital solutions to be used by our development teams.

With guidance and support from your team, you will build and maintain zero-defect, zero-latency, zero-downtime Linux daemons and tools to be used in a secure high-availablity environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To be successful in this role, it is essential you: • are proficient with C++ • can build software from complex business requirements. • have some experience working on, and building for Linux. • are proficient with source control, • are proficient with SQL, • be detail orientated • be able to deliver reliable and effective software • be able to work under pressure whilst maintaining a positive, 'can do’ / solutions based approach, • be passionate about delivering exceptional service, • be able to demonstrate strong organisational skills, • manage your own time effectively and work to competing deadlines. • have a professional and approachable manner, • be able to work as part of a team and collaboratively across the business, • are entitled to work in the UK. In addition, it is desirable that you: • are proficient with TCP and UDP • are proficient with JavaScript and/or PHP • are familiar with NoSQL technologies • have a good understanding of Linux internals such inodes, process management, memory management, and IPC.
