Job Description

To be a successful candidate, you will be highly skilled and knowledgeable in budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning cycles. You will ideally have previous experience in one or more of these areas: audit, business partnering and excellent understanding of commercial issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning cycles;
  • Forecast the short term performance of the Company to direct management intervention and resource planning;
  • To support the reporting of timely and accurate management and financial information, in compliance with relevant legal and accounting standards, which provide management insight into the running of BMJ;
  • To support the provision of advice to the BMJ Executive and BMJ Board on key financial matters;
  • Develop a strong understanding of BMJ financially, commercially and operationally together with developing strong relationships with leadership;
  • Demonstrate a strong customer focused outlook and develop positive influence amongst the key stakeholders and other support staff around the business through considered communication, collaboration, teamwork and coordination;
  • Design, create and deliver a commercially informed approach to sales reporting, allowing quick and effective assessment of pricing, discounting, regional- and sector-specific trends, renewal profiles, sales pipeline and general sales efficacy;
  • Establish a commercial framework for assessing and prioritising investment opportunities, working closely with PMO;
  • Commercial support and assessment of investment opportunities, including supporting business leads in preparing business cases
  • Develop financial models and analysis to support strategic initiatives, commercial contracts, decisions, product performance and also cash flows, with an emphasis on assessing portfolio profitability and a summarised output presentable to non-finance stakeholders;
  • Lead regular meetings with stakeholders to discuss variances, challenge and make recommendations to ensure budgets are controlled effectively and developing business risk and opportunity is assessed in financial terms; and
  • Invest proactively in cross-team and cross-group working, allowing best practice to be shared and consistency of approach to be improved throughout the wider business.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA or CIMA;
  • 5-8 years post qualified accountancy experience;
  • Degree qualified with strong academics;
  • Good understanding of commercial issues;
  • Excellent, polished communicator to members of staff at all levels;
  • Excellent Excel skills;
  • Business partnering experience.
