What are we looking for?
The ONE Campaign is seeking a full-cycle accountant to manage the daily financial and accounting functions in our Europe offices (London, Brussels, Paris, Berlin). Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close, reporting, payroll, and some limited financial planning and analysis responsibilities, including budget administration for the Europe market and each country office.
The ideal candidate is a senior-level accountant who works well independently, takes initiative and is looking to expand their career into more challenging areas. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to learn all areas of ONE’s monthly and annual accounting cycle. The Senior Accounting Manager will advise and enable others in the Europe offices to ensure strong and compliant fiscal management. This is a full-time position that can be based in any one of our four Europe offices. Some travel may be required.
What are the key responsibilities?
The role of Senior Accounting Manager falls into four major categories, each requiring equal attention to ensure success in this role and the organisation:
Coordination, Communication and Initiative
- Continuously assess and recommend improvements in maintaining a sound and consistent internal control environment across all Europe offices and maintain collaborative partnerships and network among finance and operations staff globally
- Continuously assess and recommend opportunities for operational improvement, recommend enhancements, simplification, and accounting system optimization for efficient, consistently applied, organisation-wide global accounting policies and procedures without compromising internal controls
- Coordinate with Operations team in each office providing support for vendor contracts and consultant agreements and ensuring a successful and compliant records system and paperless environment
- Coordinate with regional HR lead for improvement and maintenance of policies and procedures, new hire onboarding and orientation, staff training and other relevant areas that ensure the successful financial integrity of the organisation
- Communicate with Country Directors on a regular basis, providing them with the data and information they need to ensure proper budget and financial management
- Perform other duties as assigned
Accounting and Month-End Close
- Manage day to day accounting functions of Europe offices including payroll, accounts payable, expense and reimbursement processing, prepayments, accruals, depreciation and fixed assets, revenue and accounts receivable, journal entries, etc. to ensure accurate and timely recording each month
- Maintain integrity of the general ledger and ensure accuracy of all recorded accounting data related to the Europe offices
- Ensure proper coding of expenses across dimensions to enable accurate reporting against grants, projects and programs
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations
- Perform month-end closing procedures
- Enter month-end journal entries for accruals, deferrals, and depreciation
- Review and reconcile all major accounts; prepare adjusting journal entries as necessary
- Review monthly financial reports and ensure expenses have been correctly classified
- Perform expense variance analysis
- Work with director of accounting to update, annually, the Accounting Policies and Procedures Manual
Financial Planning and Analysis
- Coordinate the budget process for the Europe Region, including: Assisting the director of FP&A with developing, communicating and driving the budget timeline, communicate assumptions and instructions, obtain budget input from regional departments, prepare budget deliverables across entities in a multi-currency environment
- Prepare and distribute monthly budget vs. actual financial reports and memos to budget holders
- Meet with budget holders monthly to review their financial reports and status
- Advise budget holders in annual budgeting process, reporting on actual performance and providing analysis
- Support Europe-based budget holders in preparing and monitoring operational budgets as they relate to annual campaigns and project plans
Tax, Reporting and Compliance
- Coordinate interim and yearly audits, providing all necessary information, schedules and documentation
- Ensure regional tax filings are complete, correct and filed on time
- Assist with annual tax filings and coordination of c4 activities
Payroll
- Coordinate with Talent and Payroll to populate change sheet and review and approve Payroll Manager’s register
- Perform and maintain monthly cash forecasting
- In partnership with the HR/Talent lead, track timekeeping and payroll files for each office
What do we need from you?
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business-related field strongly preferred
- At least 8 years accounting experience, preferably working with global consolidation into a common parent organisation,
- Minimum 3 years experience in a management or lead capacity
- Strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles
- Experience with accounting software
- Expert level Microsoft Excel skills with proficiency in other Microsoft products and Google suite
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong collaborator who understands their role in the larger organisation and implications of their actions
- Strong organisational skills and detail-oriented
- Self-starter; able to multi-task and prioritise a number of projects
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial – and sometimes unpredictable – environment
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and diplomacy at all times
- Experience with charity and not for profit accounting for a global organisation, preferred
- Interest and dedication to achieving ONE’s mission and vision
SKILLS:
Proficiency in English required. Proficiency in other languages highly preferred such as French and German
TRAVEL:
Travel up to 5%
