Job Description

Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Planning, co-ordination and preparation of the Annual Report and Accounts of Wincanton plc, the relevant announcements and the Half Year Report. This involves clear communication and interaction with the rest of the Central Finance team, as well as other internal departments and external service providers
  • Co-ordination and planning of the Group Audit, preparation of information required for audit and monitoring of progress. Interaction with the auditors and liaison with internal finance teams
  • Preparation of Audit Committee, Remuneration Committee and Board papers
  • Planning, co-ordination and preparation of the statutory accounts for subsidiary companies
  • Review and interpretation of technical accounting pronouncements and assessment of their impact on Group reporting (management and statutory)
  • Provision of technical advice to operational finance team. This includes review of new customer contracts, contract renewals, and leasing arrangements for areas requiring judgment. Liaison with operational finance teams, senior management and auditors to ensure correct accounting treatment is applied
  • Preparation of position papers setting out the accounting treatment in areas requiring judgment such as Revenue recognition for customer contracts and accounting for leases
  • Ensuring that Group Accounting Policies remain up to date and appropriate to the business. Update and communicate to the operational teams where required
  • Provide control, analysis and reporting of other Corporate Reporting areas such as share schemes, pensions, captive insurance company reporting and property provisions
  • Ad hoc reports/projects such as rationalization of the Group Structure, and acquisitions

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Qualified accountant with appropriate Post-qualification experience
  • Experience of statutory reporting process for groups of companies including a listed company is essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Up to date knowledge of both International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and UK Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, plus interested in technical issues/problem-solving. Detailed practical knowledge of IFRS 15 is essential
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work accurately under pressure, plus flexible to the needs of the business during key reporting periods
  • Knowledge of Oracle would be advantageous
