Job Description
  • The primary responsibility of the Clerical Officer role is to complete a COVID-19 Check on all patients entering the hospital via the Emergency Department and various Scheduled Care pathways. 
  • Under general supervision and following approved hospital policies and procedures, provides an efficient, friendly, clerical support service to internal and external customers. 
  • Serves as a clerical resource person for the COVID-19 Response Team.
  • Data entry and validation of data as and when required
  • Escalates issues relating to systems to Operations Manager/Lead as appropriate.
  • Maintain good office procedures, sort and distribute post, order and maintain appropriate levels of stationary in the unit, monitor and maintain office equipment and supply inventory.
  • Ensure that all obsolete computer printouts are discarded as per hospital policy.
  • Be familiar with the appropriate standards in relation to evaluation of infection control data, compliance with hygiene audits and the hospital’s infection control policies and procedures.
  • Photocopying / emailing as directed.
  • Manage dedicated COVID Check Team email account.
  • Complete appropriate hospital mandatory training.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and initiate steps to accomplish same.
  • The individual will be required to provide cross cover for annual leave and sick leave on other areas of the COVID19 Response Team including scheduling and to provide support to all areas during times of high workloads.
  • It is envisaged that there may be an element of job rotation across the COVID19 Response Team

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
  • Obtained at least grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary Level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied..
  • Passed an examination of at least equivalent standard
  • Satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills
  • Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability), for the proper discharge of the office.
  • IT literate, high level of awareness of the importance of preserving confidentiality, organised, flexible.
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic with skills and experience in the area of healthcare
  • Knowledge of BHIS (hospital Patient Administration System).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skill – oral and written
