Job Description

This post is an exciting opportunity to work within a small and busy team that are striving to make a big difference by harnessing the skills, passion, and commitment of volunteers. The main duties will be:

  • To support the coordination of volunteers in a variety of roles across the Trust.
  • To offer in-person support to us, to improve their volunteer journey and experience.
  • To contribute to monitoring the impact of volunteers within the Trust.
  • To ensure that the recruitment, selection and placement of volunteers, reflects the local community, and is carried out in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
  • To support the coordination, placement, retention, and supervision of volunteers, including working with rotas and sign in sheets, with guidance from the Manger. Offering key coordination to teams.
  • To engage and support volunteers before, during and after their placements, ensuring that their experience is positive and beneficial to patients, visitors, and the individual, with guidance from the Manager.
  • To work closely with the Administrator to support the recruitment of new volunteers in accordance with relevant Trust policies and procedures.
  • You will build excellent working relationships with all levels of ward and departmental staff, being one of the first points of contact for staff and volunteers, ensuring any issues can be resolved quickly.
  • To support wards, departments and other organizations in the planning and the recruitment of volunteers specific to their area (including contributing ideas to the development of role descriptions), with guidance from the Manager.
  • To support the arrangement and facilitation of induction and training for volunteers, including mandatory training and any identified additional training to ensure volunteer needs are met. Follow systems and processes in place to ensure all volunteer training and support is recorded correctly.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You will have, strong communication skills and good interpersonal skills, and will be able to work to deadlines and carry out tasks following instructions with minimal supervision. You will enjoy working as part of a team and have a “hands on” approach to getting to know the volunteers. You will have experience of supervising and supporting volunteers or staff. You will also have experience and understanding of the volunteer recruitment process and the retention of volunteers. You will be helpful and confident in dealing with staff and volunteers both face to face and over the telephone, with a professional, courteous, and positive approach. You will be excited to embrace a new challenge and be able to build resilience for change.
