Job Description

The Senior Data Analyst will provide data analysis and psychometric support for a variety of English language and admissions tests. You will take responsibility for evaluating test data, designing and producing statistical reports to a demanding schedule that requires accuracy and attention to detail. Additionally, the Senior Data Analyst will identify innovative solutions to improve the processes and systems used in Data & Analytics: designing, developing and testing new analysis and data processing routines (e.g. by creating SAS programs) for departmental use.

You must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills for dealing effectively with colleagues and clients at all levels. The ability to work as part of a team and to prioritise and time manage projects is essential.

What you'll be doing

  • A major part of this role involves carrying out statistical and data analysis to ensure our examinations provide valid and accurate results. This encompasses areas such as evaluating the performance of test materials, malpractice detection and examiner monitoring
  • The business has a strong process improvement culture to which the post holder will contribute through the development and/or testing of software to ensure optimum efficiency and efficacy of departmental processes
  • The post holder will also be required to provide technical support for ad-hoc data requests and to assist in research activities such as long-term educational development projects and the development of new analysis methods
  • Advise on appropriate and feasible analytics, and inferences that can be made from them

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with working expertise in statistics.
  • Interest and potential to learn and develop new statistical approaches to address challenges in our context
  • A first degree academic qualification, with a focus on statistics, mathematics, computing, psychology, language testing, educational measurement, or social sciences is desirable
  • Professional experience programming in languages such as SAS, R and Python is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of spreadsheet and database software (e.g. Excel, Access, MySQL Workbench) and data visualisation/BI software (e.g. Power BI, Tableau)
  • Experience of assessment and educational measurement is highly desirable
  • Working knowledge of data management, statistical analysis and quantitative research methods are highly desirable
  • The ability to work under pressure and attention to detail
  • The ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team
  • Strong prioritisation and time management skills
