Job Description

Team members will be expected to work across the range of specialisms, supporting all managers, senior managers, directors and partners in delivering projects. Expectations of level of responsibility would include the following: 

  • Working as part of the Tax Advisory Services Employer Solutions Team, you will be responsible for delivering projects and solutions to client queries in areas such as PAYE Healthchecks, Employment Status, Construction Industry Scheme, National Minimum Wage, Due Diligence and Global Mobility
  • Drafting tax advice for review by senior team members
  • Seeking clearances and advance assurance
  • Reviewing  submissions (such as P11Ds, P85s and annual share scheme reporting) for consistency with tax advice given
  • Reviewing client provided information to address employment tax compliance issues
  • Reviewing target company information and preparing transaction due diligence reports on employment tax, share scheme and national minimum wage concerns
  • Liaising with non-UK firms in the PKF network to obtain input on projects involving clients with globally mobile workforces and preparing advice on the impact of UK and non-UK taxes of both the employer and their employees.
  • Monitoring project budgets and preparing fees
  • Taking a active role in and in the assignment process throughout, investigating and resolving problems that may arise during assignments and notifying the Tax and/or Engagement Partner of progress and of any unresolved issues at the earliest opportunity
  • Documenting work in a clear and concise manner, ensuring all working papers are legible, easy to follow and well presented
  • Maintain and update own tax knowledge and keep up to date with current procedures and practice, particularly in relation to our submissions (such as P11Ds, PSAs, P85s and annual share scheme reporting) for consistency with tax advice given
  • Reviewing client provided information to address employment tax compliance issues
  • Ensure that work is delivered on time and/or to budget
  • Taking a lead in and proactively supporting colleagues in client / potential client meetings
  • Ensure all outgoing work is appropriately reviewed and authorized in accordance with the firm’s Tax Manual
  • Liaise with other departments as necessary on client affairs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrate practical experience of dealing with HMRC (from within or outside of HMRC) and/or advising individuals and clients subject to HMRC enquiries
  • Ideally (but not essential) you will have experience of working within HMRC in a varied range of enforcement and compliance roles, i.e. employer compliance, local compliance, specialist roles and/or counter-avoidance
  • Hold tax and accountancy qualifications such as CTA and/or ACA/ACCA, however this too is not an essential requirement.
  • Experience of managing a portfolio (of clients and/or assignments) either from working within private practice or HMRC
  • Possess an excellent telephone manner, be able to deal with telephone calls in a courteous, enthusiastic and efficient manner.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, approachable, and all-round communication skills
  • Good organizational skills, be able to manage own time efficiently, manage and mentor other staff resources and own workload to ensure ongoing cases are dealt with promptly and efficiently
  • Self-motivated and able to show initiative
  • Good problem-solving skills.
