Job Description

We are looking for a full time, hands on qualified Financial Controller to cover all aspects of day to day accounting, administration and reporting for both the firstminute Capital funds and management entities. This is a key function for the business and a varied role with responsibilities spanning from the everyday to the strategic.

You will take ownership of:

  • Providing key fund deliverables such as quarterly fund investor reporting, investment valuations, audited financials and fund analytics
  • External tax and regulatory reporting for the management entities including FCA, tax and regulatory returns.
  • Management accounting, financial reporting and providing management information
  • Day-to-day running of finance including budgets, forecasts, financial performance, compliance monitoring and financial management
  • Implementing process improvements to enhance the efficiency of reporting processes

Key Responsibilities

Provision and ownership of in-house fund accounting and administration for both (and any subsequent) funds, initial set up for second fund and transfer/management of existing fund from current outsourced administrator

Key deliverables (working with internal and external parties - investment associates, in-house counsel, lawyers, tax advisors, auditors, compliance advisors etc):

- Day to day Fund accounting

- Quarterly investor reporting

- Weekly Investment Committee reporting/attendance

- Investment valuations

- Portfolio performance tracking

- IRR and waterfall calculations

- Ad hoc financial analysis for partners/investor events/LP calls

- Yearly audited financials for the fund legal entities

- Tax reporting for investors, funds and partners

- Fund operations and administration

- Fund transfers for investments/cash flow monitoring

- Investor queries

- Partner transfers

Accounting and reporting for the manager and the GPs to include:

- internal management reporting and recommendations

- quarterly and annual FCA returns

- compliance monitoring

- budgeting and forecasting

- partnership tax returns

- VAT returns

- payroll, pensions, relevant HMRC returns

- banking (e.g. payment and recording of invoices) and cashflow management

- team expenses; and

- support and advice for other platform operations – e.g. compliance, company secretarial, fundraising

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Qualified ACA gained within a top tier accountancy firm and relevant BA/BSc degree - A good understanding of fund accounting and administration in a PE/VC setting - Relevant fund accounting experience and Private Equity/Venture capital experience - Relevant knowledge of the regulatory environment in which the firm operates - Relevant knowledge of fund structures and related taxation in various jurisdictions (particularly UK and US) - Demonstrable working experience using Xero - A good demonstrable understanding of seed venture valuations - Ability to plan and manage workload at operational level and high level of accountability and emphasis on execution with attention to detail - Ability to make well-informed, thoughtful recommendations and deliver clear, concise written presentations/documents - High integrity and professional work ethics - Leads by example and exemplifies the company’s Core Values in actions and behaviours - Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrable ability to engage and influence stakeholders ate various levels of seniority - Ability and confidence to undertake a sole charge role and work autonomously
