Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about the work they do, the service they provide and getting the best results for their clients. The Legal Assistant supports fee earning colleagues by completing administrative legal tasks to ensure that all cases are completed in budget and on time.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Provide administrative support to fee earners as directed to ensure effective and efficient administration, management and maintenance of files from opening to archiving.
  • Effectively handle post (incoming, outgoing and filing).
  • Ensure filing system is kept tidy and in accordance with National Practice Standards.
  • Screen telephone calls and take relevant messages or deal with enquiries where possible from clients, executives and others.
  • Independently prepare precedent letters, simple letters, attendances, and internal memoranda as appropriate and provide effective support, guidance and delegation to colleagues.
  • Court work: lodge documents and completion of court forms may be required.
  • Conduct legal research where required
  • Ensure financial aspects of matters including time recording, billing and debtor management are managed, to support fee earners in the achievement of their personal fee budget.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite and relevant practice and business IT systems, particularly Mattersphere and Aderant
  • Excellent typing skills (minimum 60wpm)
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’s or relevant work experience
  • Sound knowledge of legislation and legal process relevant to own Practice Group
  • A willingness to learn and must be a quick learner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Able to work on own initiative
  • Ability to cope with tight deadlines
