Job Description
  • To provide assistance to the Management Accountants team in providing a reliable and effective Management Accounting service to Devon Partnership NHS Trust.
  • To support the Management Accounts Team and Operational Managers in providing all data, reconciliations and reports required in a timely manner, ensuring financial information is processed in accordance with procedures and in order to provide information for statutory returns.
  • Assist with the maintenance, input, updating and reconciliation of computerised budgetary control systems. This involves developing spreadsheets and databases for specific purposes and enquiring on several financial based systems. The post requires using a computer on a daily basis with speed and accuracy.
  • Assist in all aspects of supplying financial information to budget holders (i.e. non financial staff) and other finance staff when requested. This will include variance analysis, analysis of pay and non-pay, evaluating a range of options, directorate performance reporting etc. This will involve providing and receiving complex and contentious information, some of which may be sensitive.
  • Meet with budget holders on an ongoing basis advising on the current financial position. This may involve travel between different sites.
  • Working as a finance team, adopting a task-based approach to workload, which will be coordinated by the Management Accountant for Operations, the lead Senior Management Accountant for Operations and the Assistant Director of Finance (Management Accounts).
  • Manage own time in accordance with monthly/annual and ad-hoc timetables, ensuring all deadlines are met on a timely basis.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of accounting systems, processes and procedures and make recommendations to reduce costs and enhance value.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • NVQ level 3/Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Intermediate Level or equivalent experience.
  • European Computer Driving License (ECDL)
  • A good level of Education to include GCSE Maths at grade C or above
  • Knowledge of finance computer systems and of other finance areas e.g. finance coding structures, petty cash, VAT, balancing and reconciling accounts/ledgers, payroll procedures & agreements.
  • Intermediate knowledge in the areas of spreadsheets and Microsoft Windows. Sound knowledge of accounting systems.
  • Minimum of 1 year of working in a finance office.
  • Minimum of 1 year of working in a Management Accounts
  • Able to communicate internally with various levels of management.
  • Ability to communicate with partner organisations, customers and suppliers
  • Familiar with a finance system(s) and its functionality
  • Good analytical skills
  • Able to plan and prioritise own workload
  • Accurate and methodical
  • Clean driving licence and/or ability to travel to other sites as required
  • A *Standard / Enhanced CRB Check will be required for this role.
