Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide an access and enquiry service to personal users, including the provision of assistance and guidance for accessing film archive and sound material, digital resources, catalogues and finding aids, the provision of copyright and conservation advice for copying services
  • Invigilate the Access Centre and supervise consultation of special collection material and analogue moving image and sound collection items, paying particular attention to implementing copyright, data protection, security and preservation policies, intervening when necessary to ensure that material is accessed and handled correctly by users
  • Prepare and present a varied programme of user activities, including introductory and specialist workshops, film shows and screenings, and visits by community and other user groups, and support events being delivered by Learning and Outreach Officers and other Library staff
  • Develop access to the Library's collections through the use of social media and support audience development by contributing to a range of marketing and promotional activities
  • Provide an enquiry service to remote users of the Library, processing and responding to incoming enquiries from the broadcast and commercial industries, non-commercial, museum and educational sectors along with the general public by email, fax, telephone and post
  • co-ordinate customer orders for sale, hire and digital copies of film archive and sound material; arrange preparation of orders, ensuring that all copyright and licensing considerations are addressed; ensure materials are produced and despatched to customers within stated time-frame, including the editing of digital clips and use of the online delivery system for customer orders
  •  liaise and co-ordinate with external suppliers for duplication of film archive materials which cannot be processed in-house, including obtaining quotes and organising transportation of master material; checking in masters and copies once work completed
  •  contribute to departmental administrative duties as assigned by the Access and Events Team Leader to include organisation of all incoming and outgoing mail, sign for all packages received, arrange courier collections and order taxis as required

Desirable

  • Understanding of relevant legislation, including data protection and intellectual property laws and good working knowledge of copyright
  • Good general knowledge of Scottish history, literature and culture
  • Knowledge of creative industries and Scottish film production sector
