Job Description
  • To fully register all new patients in line with procedures.
  • To update and be responsible for the monitoring of the referral management system for the triage process of all referrals.
  • To be responsible for monitoring the escalation process for all referrals to achieve the access waiting time/appointment date.
  • To use own initiative to ensure that all referrals are prioritized and processed efficiently in line with Cancer Waiting times targets.
  • To comply and keep up to date with all department policies and procedures.
  • To undertake administrative duties as directed by the Team Leader or Manager to enable the
  • efficient running of the department
  • To undertake clerical duties e.g. filing, photocopying etc. in line with the Trust and departmental
  • procedures.
  • To promptly and efficiently deal with patient and GP enquiries, referring queries onto other
  • personnel as appropriate.
  • To validate the Two Week Wait performance in compliance with Cancer Waiting Times guidance to support monthly national upload submission.
  • Responsible for communicating with patients regarding their appointment details verbally and in
  • writing booked through e-RS in line with the cancer Two Week Wait target protocols.
  • To work in close liaison with GP surgeries, outpatient clinics, patients, Nursing and clinical teams and
  • other administration staff to provide a prompt and quality patient focused service.
  • To provide training and support for junior and temporary staff as required.
  • To action all electronic referrals on the e-RS worklists.
  • To also action all Cancer referral targets and update on Cancer target database.
  • Deal with all Trust-wide cancer double registrations where some cases can be very complex.
  • When collecting and recording data ensure it is accurate, up to date and complete.
  • To identify through appropriate channels all accurate data and assist in amending
  • incorrect/incomplete data.
  • To input data as required in line with relevant protocols.
  • To report any service/performance shortfalls to Team Leaders and work as part of the team in order to address such areas.

  • reliable information.
  • Maintain high standards in all forms of communication with service users and colleagues.
  • Ensure both internal and external deadlines are met.
  • Work independently and as part of a team, planning and prioritizing tasks according to rapidly
  • changing and potentially conflicting requirements.
  • Maintains supplies & stocks within own area & the department. This could be from paper clips to
  • other essential items.
  • Provide guidance, training and task supervision to new members of staff.
