Job Description
To liaise with academics and researchers to cost research applications using the university’s costing software.
To ensure that applications are fully funded, comply with sponsor guidelines, and are submitted within the required timescales to Research Services, and to the sponsor.
To manage the progress of the application from investigator to sponsor and to resolve any queries thatmay arise from the applications through to completion
To liaise with sponsors and Research Services to clarify terms and conditions associated with particular funding streams
To provide advice and support the Department’s Principal Investigators in the preparation of sponsor applications.
Assist PIs as required with preparation of final reports to sponsors and members of the research team of the grant.
Develop appropriate database to track grant applications, awards and sponsors.
Maintain the research grant filing system so that all documentation relating to individual grants is kept up-to-date, is accessible for Finance staff.
Monitor spend on grants to ensure eligibility of costs to specific funder terms and conditions.
Meet with Principal Investigators/budget holders periodically throughout project periods to ensure spend is in line with internal and external expectations and suggest and record measures to monitor progress.
Work with research accounts to ensure projects are setup and maintained, in a timely manner, on the University finance system.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent IT skills of Microsoft Office programmes, such as Word, Excel, Access.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and with all kinds of people, inside and outside the University.
Well organized, patient and tactful, with the ability to make decisions, work well under pressure, and to priorities workload.
