Job Description

We are looking for a trainee financial accountant to support both our regional and group financial accounts teams, experience gained by the candidate will be invaluable as they progress along their journey to full accounting qualification. We will require individuals to gain a full understanding of various finance sub systems and monthly accounts processes/routines (details listed below), and they will assist the team in preparing and reviewing consolidated quarterly financial accounts. Support will be provided towards studying for the ACCA or CIMA qualification.
There may eventually also be opportunities to gain experience in other areas of the finance department such as management accounts or tax if interested and an opportunity arises.
Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and review of quarterly and annual consolidated financial accounts for the group which includes in excess of 50 subsidiary companies, many of which are overseas, and preparation of statutory notes and disclosures.
  • Assisting in the preparation of commentaries, graphs and ratios on the quarterly group consolidated accounts.
  • Assisting in the reconciliation of financial accounts to management accounts.
  • Assisting in the preparation and review of accounts for some centrally maintained companies.
  • Monthly reconciliation and review of balance sheet accounts including intercompany accounts.
  • Assisting in system set up and support relating to General Ledger ‘GL’ (companies and nominal codes), Accounts Payable ‘AP’ (companies), Cash Ledger ‘CB’ (cash books), Tax ‘TX’ (Tax codes) and Currency ‘CU’ (currencies/rates).
  • Assisting in processing of expenses.
  • Assisting in the month end close in relation to AP, CB and GL.
  • Assisting in processing of cash and AP areas including bank reconciliations.
  • Online banking platform payments (e.g. Bankline)/BACS/cheque payments.
  • Ensure compliance with group policy and procedures on financial matters.
  • Providing support to the Regional/Group Financial Accountant on ad hoc tasks as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

You must be either a recent graduate (graduated within last 2 years) with at least a 2:1 degree preferably in Accounting and Finance, Sciences, Economics or Mathematics or must have a very good academic performance at GCSE/O level (9-5 grades) and GCE/A Level (A – C grades) and at least meet minimum criteria to commence ACCA or CIMA qualification. Will also consider candidates who have already started one of these qualifications.

  • GCSE/O level Math (9-7 or equivalent) or GCE/A Level Math (A or B).
  • To be highly motivated.
  • Good communication skills required – both written and verbal.
  • Good interpersonal skills required.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong Excel skills to an intermediate to high level.
