About Us

The National Museum Directors’ Council (NMDC) represents the leaders of the UK’s national collections and major regional museums. We act as an advocate on behalf of members and their collective priorities and work to shape the museums and cultural policy agendas, as well as providing our membership with a forum for discussion and an opportunity to share information and work collaboratively. The current Chair of the Council is Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate. A team of four staff handle the day-to-day business and are based within the institution of the current Chair. As a member of the Disability Confident Scheme, we interview all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria for a job vacancy. Our jobs are like our galleries, open to all.
