Job Description

The role holder will be accountable for the organization’s management, statutory and regulatory reporting requirements. This will also involve all board reporting and information requests from external organizations (e.g. ONS). In addition, the role holder will be responsible for the finance aspects of strategic business planning process, working closely with the Head of Customer, industry and Regulatory affairs and with the finance function and management of the company’s outsourcing service provider to align budgets and reforecasts as appropriate.

In addition to developing an efficient, effective and cost-conscious Finance and Support Services function, striving for continuous improvements and streamlining processes and procedures, you will also be expected to lead the management of stakeholder relationships on financial matters, including at Board level, and facilitate the renegotiation of contracts, including 3rd party services, property management leases and dilapidations negotiations.

Role Accountabilities

  • To oversee and support the finance accountabilities, developing finance strategy, policy and processes, including budgeting, management accounting and future forecasting requirements.
  • Full responsibility for all financial, management and statutory reporting to Board and Senior Management: including financial statements, business KPIs and commercial commentary for the benefit of stakeholders.
  • The finance aspects of the annual industry strategic planning process, collaborating closely with the Head of Customer, Industry and Regulatory affairs and counter parts in the company’s outsourcing service provider.
  • Accountable for Audit, Risk Management, Quality and Compliance both within the organization and of 3rd party suppliers
  • Own the external auditor relationship, ensuring that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met: managing company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity and other financial transactions, as appropriate.
  • Lead robust, reliable and timely financial planning through financial and non-financial data to delivery analysis, insights and options to enable the Senior Management and Board to drive performance and make sound business decisions in line with operational and long-term strategy.
  • Oversee the organization’s operational performance ensuring financial integrity of the financial control system, review of performance against agreed standards and full visibility of all risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC and all other legislative and tax requirements relating to financial matters as well as other areas under the control of this role.
  • Ensure that the systems used within the company (supplied by 3rd parties) are fit for purpose.
  • Optimize and continue to develop the new finance system.
  • Oversee and support professional experts in HR, Legal, Quality & Compliance, Risk and Audit, Information Security/ Data Privacy, ensuring they’re able to execute and deploy their expertise effectively to enable you to deliver your accountabilities.
  • Oversee the operational relationship with the managed service partner(s) who support company corporate activities, acting (and supporting your team to act) as expert customer/ buyer for services provided by 3rd parties.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates will ideally be fully qualified accountants (ACA / ACCA / CIPFA / CIMA) or have significant relevant practical experience (qualified by experience). Experience of leadership, coaching and line management of multi-functional teams. The ability to think strategically and proactively. Previous experience of the design and implementation of financial or support services strategies. Experience in managing a fast and dynamic environment. Experience of working with outsourcers / external contractors. Must be comfortable operating at a senior level and interacting with other senior representatives (internal or external), corporate partners and other stakeholders. Experience of not for profit organizations is advantageous. Experience of the energy sector is advantageous but not essential.
