Job Description

Your core responsibility will be to ensure the successful delivery of a number of regular accounting activities including the monthly close process. This will include managing a fast and well-controlled month-end accounts close process, enabling robust and timely financial reporting to key internal & external stakeholders, and supporting the needs of the business with insightful financial information. In addition to the above, your day-to-day duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Providing excellent support to key stakeholders across the business, both within and outside Finance, by building strong relationships and by using analytical skills to respond to queries and provide value-adding guidance and advice.
  • Taking responsibility for developing solutions to technical accounting risks, issues and change requirements resulting from business, accounting or regulatory developments.
  • Maintaining a robust control environment and ensure all processes are efficient. Actively seek to identify opportunities to enhance control and/or efficiency and take the initiative to implement these.
  • Continuous development of processes to enhance the efficiency and control of such and to meet the evolving requirements of stakeholders and developments within the business.
  • Posting / reviewing complex accounting entries requiring expertise and professional judgment, performing / reviewing balance sheet reconciliations, analysis & other financial control activities.
  • Supporting internal and external audits and prepare for these by ensuring strong closing control processes and audit trails exist for areas of responsibility.
  • Line Management of junior colleague/s in the Technical Accounting team, including performance & development management, coaching & training, prioritization, allocation of responsibilities and resource planning to ensure key deliverables are met to agreed timescales.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ideally, we are seeking individuals with the following skills and experience:

  • Qualified accountant
  • Accounting within the insurance industry / financial services would be highly desirable
  • Some management experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Ability to build solid working relationships both within and outside own team, including junior and more senior colleagues
  • Working knowledge of SAP is preferable
  • Strong Excel skills are essential
  • Experience of month-end close culture of strict deadlines, tight financial controls and taking responsibility for quality of work produced
  • Experience of problem resolution and process improvement/development tasks
