Job Description

The role involves working with our clients’ finance and property teams to maximize the tax relief on their capital expenditure projects, whilst also experiencing a role in a global professional services firm.

  • Preparing Capital Allowance tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  • Considering the availability of other tax reliefs including revenue relief, Land Remediation Relief and Structures and Buildings Allowances.
  • Meeting with clients and potential clients to explain our services.
  • Coordinating and liaising with clients and contractors to assist with analyzing capital expenditure for Capital Allowance purposes.
  • Undertaking client site visits to help identify qualifying expenditure.
  • Valuing fixtures using SPONS and other recognized HMRC approved sources.
  • Undertaking Just Apportionment calculations including land valuations in line with HMRC’s methodology.
  • Preparing documentation and liaising with HMRC in response to enquiries into Capital Allowance claims.
  • Acting as a point of contact on specific Capital Allowance projects for any queries from the wider business.
  • Preparing technical reports on an ad hoc basis in response to specific client queries.
  • Working collaboratively with other members of the National Capital Allowances team.
  • Developing supportive and effective working relationships with members of the team and providing cooperation and input whilst informing others of own activities and progress.
  • Reviewing work completed by junior staff for accuracy and completeness, and to provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensuring that the Capital Allowance engagement team are fully updated on progress and any issues that might affect the client relationship.
  • Communicating confidently and knowledgably with Managers, Senior Managers, Directors and Partners within the firm.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Relevant professional qualification, for example ATT, RICS, ACA and/or CTA.
  • High level of tax technical knowledge of the UK’s Capital Allowances rules.
  • Experience in preparing and submitting Capital Allowance tax relief claims in all sectors (experience of making land remediation relief claims would be desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge of claims over a broad range of sectors and different types of capital projects such as new builds, acquisitions, refurbishments, extensions and fit-outs.
  • Proven experience in client handling and managing a busy portfolio.
  • Excellent communication skills in a range of situations both written and oral.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of wider business and economic issues.
