Job Description
The post-holder will work closely with the relevant Head of Cluster Administration, Business Support Manager, Head of Business Support, and the relevant central University services to support financial and contractual arrangements for staff and students.
The post-holder will have good communication and negotiating skills, and experience of working on change and improvement initiatives. They will have the ability to contribute effectively as part of a team. Key responsibilities
- Undertakes projects in support of the general management as requested by the Business Support Manager and Head of Cluster Administration, e.g. providing management information and statistical data, supporting office relocation projects, taking part in business processes review groups and spreading good practice throughout the Humanities Cluster.
- Resolves issues with departmental resources fast and efficiently by working closely with colleagues throughout the College such as IT or our services, Facilities and Estates, HR, Finance, and other academic departments.
- Participates in department, cluster, faculty and college-wide fora as appropriate, and to cover for colleagues as required, both within their own areas and across the Faculty and College.
- Supports the Business Support Manager in managing the annual teaching planning process, including updating the academic workload database
- Assists with the recruitment, induction and training of new members of academic and professional services staff, and academic visitors, acting as a point of reference for queries and advising them on College procedures and referring them to appropriate College services and contacts (e.g. Security, HR, ITS).
- Assists with the content and production of departmental staff and handbooks in electronic formats.
- Supports the Business Support Manager with managing the departmental space (such as offices and student areas), including arrangements for refurbishments, repairs and satisfactory provision of equipment and facilities.
- Responsible for the purchase and recording of resources, equipment, and supplies for local areas.
- Assists with the monitoring of budgets and expenditure.
- Contributes to Faculty’s overall professional services team, contributing to planning and delivering professional support to students and staff, including updating the internal website as appropriate.
- Organizes departmental staff events.
- Undertakes any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Business Support Manager or the Head of Cluster Administration.
