Job Description

An opportunity to work in a pressurized customer focused service by responding to customers with waste and transport related issues.

  • To assist in the administration of the day-to-day operations and development of the Waste Management & Transport department.
  • Working as part of a busy team offering administrative support with Corporate Service functions.
  • To provide support and assistance to departments by engaging with and responding to customer and colleague enquiries.
  • The post holder will learn and gain an academic qualification and will also obtain valuable experience within the waste & transport sector.
  • This post will provide an insight on how the local authorities deliver their statutory functions to members of public when delivering waste services.
  • To provide a range of administrative duties including photocopying, filing, message taking, sorting and distributing post.
  • To respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from members of the public, suppliers and staff.
  • To deal with all customer contact effectively, and courteously, in line with the council’s policies and procedures.
  • To maintain manual and computerized systems including inputting data, keeping records, statistics, confidential and general filing systems as directed.
  • To organize meetings and events, ensuring that all necessary arrangements are made.
  • To undertake any other administration job related tasks as required.

HOURS

  • 37 hours per week
  • Business core hours:
  • 8.30am - 5pm Monday to Thursday
  • 8.45am - 4.45pm Friday
  • With 1 hour lunch break per day.

20% paid time during working hours is given to complete training, referred to as “Off the Job Training”


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of a wide range of Microsoft Office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and charting software.
  • Have Good communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and deal with interruptions.
  • Ability to follow guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • A good understanding of working in local government.
  • Good team player

Minimum achieved GCSE Grade C or equivalent in 5 subjects to include English and Maths.
