Job Description

You will ensure the maintenance of adequate financial controls; produce timely and insightful information, whilst contributing to the managing, processing and adherence to forecasts, budgets and strategic plans.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation of the monthly management accounts for the OBU (Operational Business Unit) and submission to group per timelines.
  • Production of the P&L, Balance sheet and cashflow for the operating business unit.
  • Drive the preparation, presentation and delivery of monthly and quarterly forecasts.
  • Responsible for the preparation of overhead reports to help understand the cost drivers impacting profit and recoveries.
  • Hold monthly cost Centre review meetings with key stakeholders and ensure identified variances are understood and communicated.
  • Engage with the workforce planning team to ensure robust people plan & headcount forecast is in place to support the business.
  • Reporting and analysis of variance to forecast and budget expectations.
  • Maintain an effective and accurate cash flow forecast for the unit, engaging with wider teams to understand the impact of invoicing and cash collection and payments.
  • Review all aged Debtors and Creditors and engage with other members of the finance team and possible stakeholders to resolve.
  • Assist the Financial Controller as and when required such as budget, actuals, audits forecast etc.
  • Delivering ad hoc reporting requests from SBU and Group
  • Support in the preparation, presentation and delivery of annual budget and strategic planning process.
  • Ensuring cooperation and alignment with department heads.
  • Present operational metrics to monitor and explain progress.
  • Supporting the preparation of the Year End packs and assist with Audit requirements.
  • Maintain financial records and systems in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and are compliant with local and governmental reporting requirements and that provisioning is appropriate for the level of risk.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, a robust controls environment is in place and that approval processes and delegated authorities are adhered to. Ensure audit issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Be a promoter of change during the business transformation phase by challenging the status quo.
  • Evaluate business processes, recommend and implement improvements.
  • Proactively challenge the assumptions inherent in financial data presented in order to make an appropriate judgment as to its validity and value.
  • Identify and support the ongoing improvements in IFS ERP system to drive business insight
  • Run the month end close process and provide support to the department where needed.
  • Prepare monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations for the C2I, COMMS and Cyber Operational Business Units.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Recognized professional accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA).
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Technically competent with impact awareness of specialist areas including foreign exchange management, controls and governance, audit, ethics and risk management. Full understanding of IFS.
  • Experienced in the defense contracting industry and government contracting regulations.
  • Experience in forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis.
  • IT literate – Microsoft, finance and management accounting systems, ERP systems. Experience in IFS and OneStream reporting & panning tool would be advantageous.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage varying workload.
  • Ability to interact and support variety of stakeholders across the business.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and as part of a team.
