FoodCloud is an award winning not-for-profit social enterprise that links businesses with surplus food to local charities and community groups through a smartphone App and website, tailor made contracts and a rich network of businesses and charities. FoodCloud (CRN 20101398) is a fast-growing and ambitious Dublin-based, nationally and internationally focused not-for-profit social enterprise, set up with the aim of reducing food waste and food insecurity through the use of innovative technology. Globally, 30% of food is wasted, while 795 million people suffer from food poverty. Every year we use land the size of China, Mongolia, and Kazakhstan to grow food that is never eaten. FoodCloud has a simple solution that connects businesses with surplus food to charities and community organisations that need it using technology. FoodCloud was established in October 2013 and continues to have a growing impact across Ireland, the UK, and Central Europe. Since launching, FoodCloud has redistributed over 140 million meals that would have otherwise gone to waste and over 35 million meals in 2021 alone.
