Counter terrorism is at the heart of what we do. We employ over 1,500 police officers and members of staff at nuclear sites throughout the UK. Our police officers are Authorised Firearms Officers and undergo regular and world class firearms training. We have the same powers as police constables in Home Office forces and also patrol a 5km area around the sites we protect. The ambition of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary is “to be recognised nationally and internationally as the United Kingdom’s leading organisation for the provision of armed policing protective services”.
